COVID-19

COVID 19 is certainly having a marked effect on the Maritime Sector. Not only because around 60% of the worlds goods transit the origins of the virus, China. Whether in or out, the cargoes have a massive contribution to the Asian economy.

One of the first tasks to prevent spread of the virus and disease is to reduce gatherings. Hence much awaited conferences here in Singapore are being postponed almost by the minute. A number that I was invited to become involved in were addressing the continuing improvements to the digitalisation of ships. Although this of course continues regardless of conferences, the increased threats of Cyber Breaches also increase proportionally.

We need to continue with the delivery of Cyber Awareness Training to ensure the correct management of such risks. The IMO deadline is fast approaching – it is now a little over 300 days away. We cannot allow the disruption that COVID 19 cases bring to classroom assemblies to delay the training.

Our award winning course helps achieve this goal as it is app based. Perfectly suited to individual learning. Crew and onshore staff can complete the course at their own pace, at the time and location of their choice. Once completed they have the opportunity to take the end of course test to gain the certification required. All this without the need to even go anywhere near a classroom.

Check out our Cyber Safety Awareness Training page for further details. And don’t forget if you are Singaporean or hold a PR, you may qualify for a grant for your fees.

Marine Cluster fund

Following a rigorous in-depth review and examination of our Cyber Security Awareness Course, the Marine and Port Authority of Singapore, MPA, has approved the course for inclusion within their Marine Cluster Funding initiative. (MCF)[1]We understand we are the only organisation to gain approval for an e-learning course of this type. The ability to access our course using a smartphone, tablet or PC enables crew training to be completed at any time, in any location without reliance on an internet connection is an undoubted USP.

The volume of maritime traffic to and from Singapore is well known – around 1000 vessels at any one time. However, few outsiders are aware that there are around 170,000 people employed in the industry onshore in Singapore. That is a huge amount of personnel and all need to be aware of the threats of Cyber Breaches and its just as important that they undergo Cyber Awareness Training as well as seafarers.

Recognition by MPA, undoubtedly one the global leaders in the Maritime Sector, is the perfect accolade for our course which has enabled Stapleton International to proceed to final contract negotiations with interested parties. Exciting and busy times ahead no doubt.

The course design, content and quality of the five short modules is, we firmly believe, up amongst the best available. Considering that our fee pricing of £60/€70/ USD80/SGD110 per individual candidate is discounted proportionally as group registration numbers increase, this makes our offer very attractive indeed. Uniquely, also a certificate of CPD from the IMarEST is awarded to those successfully passing the end of course test.

Special discounts for registration are available throughout the remainder of 2019 and until Chinese New Year in 2020. If you would like further information on the course and require a cost quotation, please email cybersafe@stapint.com.

[1]“MCF Training Grant is available for eligible participants. Please refer to www.mpa.gov.sg/mcf for information”.Course attendees may apply for SkillsFuture Credit (for self-sponsored individuals) or Productivity Solutions Grant (SkillsFuture Training Subsidy) (for businesses) on the nett amount after MCF subsidy.

Inmarsat Partnership

Today we are excited to share the news of the launch of our partnership with Inmarsat. As global leaders in Maritime Communications Services, Inmarsat consider our course to be a key element of their Cyber Security provision, Fleet Secure. In addition to existing course development partners – the University of Sunderland, IMarEST and Marine Learning Alliance – we have secured Inmarsat as a truly valued strategic partner. This new addition is the final link in the chain and now positions Stapleton International as a pioneer in the provision of Maritime Cyber Safety Awareness Training. The ability to access our course using a smartphone, tablet or PC enables crew training to be completed at any time, in any location without reliance on an internet connection. Be Cyber Safe@Sea

It was an extremely exciting day when we received an email to say we had been shortlisted for an award at the highly prestigious Maritime Industry Seatrade Awards We have developed a state of the art Cyber Safety awareness programme in collaboration with IMareST and their learning arm the Marine Learning Alliance.  This unique course can be downloaded onto any device when connected to the internet and then accessed while at sea without the need for Wi-Fi connectivity. Seafarers are guided through a course that is state of the art and is kept up to date with all the latest cyber research and information.  Learning is measured via an interactive test that assesses the knowledge gained. And the email we received told us we had reached the finals in London.

We duly attended the awards on the 29thof June 2018 at the very elegant Landmark Hotel in London. The room was filled to the brim with the crème de la crème of the Maritime Industry.   We waited in eager anticipation as each of the award categories was announced.  When finally (it felt like forever) it came to the Cyber Security Award we heard that there were 80 organisations considered for the awards, we also heard that the quality of the nominations was extremely good but there were only three very high calibre finalists in the Cyber Security category. That speech made the fact that Stapleton International had made it into the top 3 an even greater achievement than we had first realised. We heard that the prestigious judging panel had a very difficult decision in choosing an outright winner and although we didn’t win 1st place this time; we are delighted to be the only training package among the Cyber finalists.  The judges commented that the shortlisted companies were of such high quality that we were all winners. So, all in all, a great experience and confirmation that all the hard work of designing, developing and co-creating the course was worth it and all the better that our course was judged so highly by top Industry experts.

Why Cyber ?

Cyber Security seems to be mentioned at almost every juncture these days, everyone agrees that it is ‘important’. But what are we doing to make sure that cyber safety awareness is highlighted and taught to those who can make a difference by some simple preventative actions and by understanding the implications of actions that can prevent security breaches?  This was the BIG question we asked ourselves when thinking about the very real Cyber issues that are, and will be, facing the Maritime Industry.
